There’s a fresh current sweeping through European jazz — and its name is AMARÉ. The new trio project by Céline Rudolph, Henrique Gomide, and João Luís Nogueira offers a lyrical and daring exploration of Brazilian jazz, where voice, piano, and guitar move in fluid conversation — no drums, no boundaries.
Released on October 3rd, 2025 via Challenge Records, AMARÉ has already been celebrated as “Album of the Week” by SWR Kultur and praised by Folha de São Paulo for its unique blend of chamber spirit, Brazilian heart, and jazz freedom.
A Sound Between Worlds: Brazil Meets Jazz
“For me, this setup offers a huge sense of space — sonically, rhythmically, and structurally,” says Céline Rudolph, known for her award-winning work that transcends genres from African rhythms to European art song.
Together with Brazilian pianist Henrique Gomide (Caixa Cubo) and guitarist João Luís Nogueira, Rudolph creates a world where Brazilian rhythms and melodies meet jazz improvisation, blending soul, lyricism, and spontaneity like an ocean tide. The album’s title — AMARÉ — carries a double meaning: A maré (the tide) evokes movement and transformation, while Amar é… (“to love is…”) speaks of connection and devotion.
Rediscovering Brazilian Classics with Fresh Ears
The album features original works — Gomide’s Toca da Arara, Rudolph’s Júpiter em Áries, and Nogueira’s Embaixo da Imensidão — alongside reimagined gems by João Donato, Gilberto Gil, Cartola, and Toninho Horta, who appears as a guest on his own piece Beijo Partido.
“These melodies are part of the Brazilian soul,” Rudolph explains. “Our goal was to open them up, let them breathe, and find something personal inside them.”
A Live Spirit, A Chamber Intimacy

Recorded live at The Loft in Cologne with few overdubs, AMARÉ captures the spontaneity of three musicians listening deeply — creating groove through subtlety and interplay. It’s music for attentive ears and open hearts — the kind of performance that draws you in like a tide.
As Deutschlandfunk Kultur described:
“When she sings, it sounds warm, world-embracing, and always full of wonder.”
